This January Transfer window, there was an explosion in the market and a dramatic increase in money spent month. In fact, the Premier league spent a record of £150 million this window, with HUGE moves happening. Stars and very solid players made moves all across Europe to new teams. While these moves are exciting at a club level, they could also have larger implications for the World Cup later this year.
Aubameyang to Arsenal; Olivier Giroud to Chelsea; Batshuayi to Dortmund
This move was the biggest of all the moves, simply because of the magnitude of this move. All three strikers were unsettled in their clubs and this move perfectly lined up for all three teams. Aubameyang will move to Arsenal, and play alongside Lacazette and Ozil. Giroud, on the other hand, moves to Chelsea in order to have more playing time. He's had a rough season so far, and hopes to find his stride once again in a new system at Chlesea, and hopes it will be enough to make the final French call up. Batshuayi finally gets a move away from West London, and will play at Dortmund who are in a desperate need for a striker. He'll play a critical role for them, so they're bargaining on him tearing it up. He'll need to play well this season as he has to compete with Origi and Benteke for the backup role behind Lukaku.

Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid
Diego Costa finally makes his return to his former club, Atletico de Madrid, after 4 successful, yet controversial, seasons with Chelsea. After struggling the last 2 seasons and having many fights/arguments with the club, he was benched for the entire first half of the season with Chelsea. After waiting until this January window, he was moved over to his former club and has his eyes set on that starting spot for Spain. Sitting out five months did not do him any good, and he has a lot of work to do in order to compete with Morata for the starting forward position.

Lucas Moura to Tottenham/ Theo Walcott to Everton
These two players are very alike, as they are very fast and skilled wingers. Both have roles on their national teams, Brazil and England, yet both were beginning to lose playing time in their own clubs. Walcott spent his entire career at Arsenal, and at this point never broke out how fans anticipated. As he felt his career had stalled, he now moves to Everton in order to have a larger role and develop in a new system as his England spot is in danger. Lucas, at one point, was labeled as Brazil's future alongside Neymar, but ever since that his career hasn't exploded like he hoped. Now at PSG, he is left out of playing time due to Mbappe, Cavani, and Neymar leading the attack. As his role diminished, he will move to the Spurs for playing time as he tries to make the final cut for the Brazilian national team.
Daniel Sturridge to West Brom
Daniel Sturridge is a talented striker who, unfortunately, has had to deal with many injuries throughout his career. The last four years, he's struggled to stay on the field with Liverpool, with many serious injuries keeping him sidelined for months. He will make a strong case to be called up, and he has competition with players such as Jamie Vardy, Jermain Defoe, and Danny Welbeck for the final striker spot behind Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford.
