If you could cancel the World Cup right now, the Spain and Portugal game would absolutely be the greatest final ever. This game is instantly going down as a World Cup classic for the ages, as thew two giants traded goals over 90 minutes. It lived up to the hype.
This game is easily one of the most entertaining World Cup games I have watched because of the talent and skill on display by all the players on the field. These are all World Class players and the knew how to put on a show for the fans. In this rivalry match, both sides wanted desperately to win, and tension started to build throughout the match.
We should also mention the drama coming from both teams. Spain foolishly decided to fire it's coach a whole day before the World Cup started. Ronaldo got "sentenced" to prison. These news coming from the outside could have derailed the match and this game could have ended up much more differently. Instead, we witnessed a football masterpiece in front of our own eyes.
You could say Ronaldo got a little lucky with his hat trick. But come on, y'all just love to hate the man for being talented and scoring goals. He's 33 years old, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to score a hat trick on the biggest level, why don't we admire greatness rather than tearing him down. Some say his first penalty goal should not have been awarded, and that he flopped. De Gea messed up on his second goal too, so why don't we just award it to him as an own goal right??
Regardless, any criticism Ronaldo got over his first two goals, he shut them up with a ROCKET from a little outside the box.
Nacho scored a banger from outside the box.
Diego Costa bullied the Portugal defense the entire game, until he got subbed off in the 77th minute.
Spain held on to possession the large entirety of the match and touched the ball across the field smoothly and gracefully. Except for a few sloppy moments, Spain handled the match well and deserved 3 points. If only CR7 didn't get in the way in such a historic manner.
