5 greatest games from the World Cup

This World Cup will go down in history as one of the most exciting World Cups in history. Filled with goals and legendary moments, these five games stood out from the crowd and kept us on the edge of our seats. These games were all filled with passion and a unpredictable spirit that kept us wanting for more.

Japan vs Belgium (3-2)

In reality, I was fully planning on missing this game. I didn't really expect much excitement from this match at all. But I was fortunately WRONG. This game was a classic, the Samurai held their ground against Belgium. Their tactics and structure kept Belgium off the ball for most of the game. Japan passed the ball and built up play, and went on a two-goal blitz in four minutes. Once Japan went up 2-0 in the 52nd minute, it seemed almost impossible for them to come back from the deficit. Until Belgium went scored two goals of their own in five minutes. This incredible Belgium comeback ended in a 94th minute goal, a beautiful counter-attack that left the Japanese stunned.

Belgium vs Brazil (2-1)

After Belgium's nail-biting win against Japan, they faced Brazil next. This game was a thrilling back and forth encounter until the 27th minute, when a unfortunate own goal by Brazil doomed their chances for the next round. From there on out, Brazil held possession and controlled the match, until Belgium found another opportunity to counter-attack once more, doubling their lead in the 31st minute. Brazil attacked the rest of the match and cut the lead, but Coutois' heroics saved Belgium countless times.

France vs Croatia (4-2)

It was pretty hard to keep the Final out of my list, but it is deserving to be there. France's 4-2 win against Croatia was the most goals scored in the Final since 1966. It was an exciting game watching both teams play for 90 minutes, with Croatia dominating the match and France holding back and playing the counter attack. The game was filled with highlights, especially in the second half as France began to open up more. Pogba and Mbappe scored impressive goals, Griezmann perfectly placed his penalty, and Perisic left the world shaking after his incredible goal. France came out as Champions for the second time in their history and Croatia went home as a respected runner-up.

Spain vs Portugal (3-3)

I already wrote an article about this game, so just read it here.

France vs Argentina (4-3)

This game was easily the most entertaining, excited, incredible, and wonderful game this World Cup.  It was a football masterpiece in all aspects. Goals, highlights, mistakes, questionable referee choices, the joy of triumph and the agony of defeat. These two countries played their hearts out for the entirety of the match, Argentina never gave up hope until the final whistle, and France attempted to hold off Messi and the Argentinian attack. Mbappe proved himself on the greatest stage, Pavard left us stunned with a BEAUTY golazo, Di Maria brought life into Argentina's chest, and a final nail-biting sequence almost tied the game in the final seconds.

Opinion: My favorite World Cup kits so far

Part of the excitement as we get closer to the World Cup are the new kits being released by sponsors such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, New Balance, etc. Each country releases their own kits, inspired by their national colors and old uniform designs. There's a certain difficulty in doing so: they must strike the perfect balance in simplicity while remaining original and tasteful. Argentina: Argentina's home kit keeps the traditional design they have always had: the vertical blue and white stripes down the torso. The black lines on the shoulders add a very flashy style. Argentina's away kit looks VERY, VERY beautiful and stylish. The black kit stands out from the crowd and attracts all the attention. The finishing touch, the lightning design down the side of the kit, adds flavor and excitement with a nice shade of sky blue. Colombia:  In all honesty, when I first saw the leaked image of the kit, I was not impressed of the design. Yes, the red and blue design looked v...

10 players to look out for in World Cup 2018

The World Cup is football's largest collection of stars coming together representing their home countries, and battling it out for the ultimate prize. However, among so much talent on display, there a few handful of players who will shine and seize the moment. These 10 players listed below are players who I am looking forward to watching this summer, and who I think, are worth keeping an eye on. 10. Marco Asensio There is no question about it, Marco Asensio is a stud. He's young and talented, and has yet to crack into Real Madrid's starting lineup, but his talent is on display whenever he is on the field. He scored 17 goals and 6 assists last season in his breakout year, and is on his way to matching those numbers this year with 9 & 6, with limited appearances. He has a knack for scoring bangers and showing off his wide array of skills moves. Although he may not crack the starting 11 for Spain, but he will make plenty of highlights and make this Spain squad fu...

Could Iceland prove to be underdogs again?

Iceland celebrating qualification to the quarterfinals vs. France, after defeating England 2-0. Iceland were the underdog team of Euro 2016, as they beat all odds to pass the group stage and then defeating England to reach the quarterfinals. They proved that they had talent to match up and compete against other European giants. Yet this summer, Iceland are no longer a surprise team and many opponents know to watch out for them.  Iceland was placed in Group D: arguably the toughest group in the entire tournament. Iceland will have to face World Cup-favorites Argentina, a fellow European giant Croatia, and a very young and fast Nigeria team. Nonetheless, Iceland is a very strong team and can surprise us again this summer. Iceland's road to Russia was due to a strong showing in qualifiers, finishing first in Group I. Iceland's balanced midfield could pose problems for both Croatia and Nigeria, and holding the ball for 90 minutes could effectively ice the ...
